The 18th “Pok Oi Charity Golf Tournament” was successfully held on February 9, 2023 (Thursday) at the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club. Despite the two-year hiatus, the atmosphere was as warm as ever, attracting more than a hundred golf enthusiasts from different sectors to respond to the charity event, raising funds for Pok Oi Hospital’s social services and supporting disadvantaged communities. It was a meaningful event.

For the first time, this year’s event received full support from the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club, and Dr. Chan Shou-ming, the incoming Chairman of the Pok Oi Hospital Board of Directors, said in his speech at the opening ceremony, “In addition to providing the venue and golf course, the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club also fully sponsored the 18-hole green fee, golf cart fee, coach match, and event catering arrangements. Thanks to their support, this event was able to proceed smoothly!” The co-chairs of the organising committee, Mdm. Candy Liu, Vice Chairman, and Mdm. Maggie Hon, Vice Chairman, also stated that it was thanks to the generous donations and support of the community that Pok Oi Hospital was able to provide diversified services, such as launching innovative transitional housing projects – “Pok Oi Kong Ha Wai Village” and “Pok Oi Shing Ping Village” – to relieve housing pressure for grassroots citizens waiting for public housing. They hope that everyone can continue to support the various activities of Pok Oi Hospital so that the Hospital can continue to develop and benefit the community.

Mr. Huen Wong, Chairman of Clearwater Bay Country Club, who attended the opening ceremony, expressed the hope to collaborate with charitable organisations through various means to organise diversified activities and raise funds to give back to society. Through the beneficial physical and mental activity of golf, he hopes to encourage more donors to support the charitable services of Pok Oi Hospital, raise awareness of the needs of underprivileged individuals, and work for the betterment of the community.

The event attracted nearly 110 golfers and received generous support from various donors and philanthropists. It was honoured to have the diamond sponsorship of UCESR Foundation and many other organisations and donors who generously sponsored a variety of gifts. Together, they made this charity golf event a great success, giving their all for the cause of charity. The weather was cool and refreshing on the day of the event, and the golfers competed for multiple awards under the New New Peoria scoring system. To add to the fun of the event, the organisers set up several special awards, including the Longest Drive Award (men’s and women’s categories), the Closest-to-the-Pin Award (men’s and women’s categories), the Team Total Score Award, and the Individual Net Score Award, attracting golfers to compete, learn from each other, and create a lively atmosphere.
