To complement the Hong Kong SAR Government’s development plan for grassroots medical and health care, provide more diverse medical and health services to the people of Hong Kong, ease the pressure on public hospitals, create healthy communities, and promote the sustainable development of the public medical system, Pok Oi Hospital has established the Yuen Long District Health Centre. Considering that some residents in Yuen Long District live in remote areas, in addition to providing fixed service locations, the centre has set up the “DHC Promotion Vehicle” to render valuable services within reach for residents throughout Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai. The launch ceremony was held on March 24, 2023, and was attended by several members of Pok Oi Hospital’s Board of Directors.

Mdm. Lam Kwan, Chairman of Pok Oi Hospital’s Board of Directors, said in her speech at the launch ceremony of the DHC Promotion Vehicle: “The DHC Promotion Vehicle brings valuable services to residents throughout the Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai areas, offering more diversified medical and health services to the community. We shall continue to uphold our service objective of “serving the community with generosity, charity, compassion, and benevolence”. We will not only continue to serve the residents of Yuen Long but also strive to develop more new services in the future to provide appropriate and timely services to citizens across Hong Kong.”

In her vote of thanks, Mdm. Huang Xiao-jun, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Medical Services Committee, expressed her gratitude for the trust the Department of Health had shown in giving Pok Oi Hospital the opportunity to provide diversified services at the district health centre. She also expressed appreciation for the dedication of the professional nurses, therapists, and social workers, who are committed to providing professional medical services to residents.

On March 31 last year, Pok Oi Hospital successfully obtained the three-year service contract for the Yuen Long District Health Centre from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department. The service units include one main centre, three affiliated centres, and three service points. Since October 24 last year, services at the main centre have gradually been launched in various phases; other service units have gradually been put into operation in the second and third quarters of this year, rendering valuable services to the community. In order to further enhance the services of the district health centre, a “DHC Promotion Vehicle” has been set up to bring valuable services to residents throughout the Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai areas. The DHC Promotion Vehicle has been in service since March 2023. The DHC Promotion Vehicle offers a wide range of services, including outreach health promotion, health risk assessment, and nurse consultation services, covering multiple mobile service points in the district. It provides outreach services to elderly people living alone in remote rural areas of Yuen Long, people with disabilities, and families with special needs, to provide appropriate health assessment, education, and counselling services. We hope to connect with the community so that more citizens can access the necessary health services and be empowered to lead a healthy life.
