“Shanghai Commercial.Pok Oi Cycle for Millions 2023” Successfully Concluded

6,000 Participants Cycled on Stonecutters Bridge to Raise Funds for the Largest Residential Care Home for the Elderly in Hong Kong
Organised by Pok Oi Hospital and title sponsored by Shanghai Commercial Bank, the “Shanghai Commercial.Pok Oi Cycle for Millions 2023” successfully concluded at the Stonecutters Bridge today (16 April, Sunday). The largest charity cycling event attracted around 6,000 participants to raise funds for the construction and development of POH Tuen Mun Lam Tei Nursing and Residential Care Home for the Elderly, the largest residential care home for the elderly (RCHE) in Hong Kong.
After a three-year hiatus, the “Shanghai Commercial.Pok Oi Cycle for Millions 2023” makes a strong comeback with a new theme and the very first collaboration with the ever beloved Sanrio characters for a series of themed souvenirs, limited edition jerseys, along with other charity souvenirs. To promote active lifestyle to more families, the event was for the very first time open to children aged 6 or above. The event successfully raised over HK$8,600,000 of donation funds, fully demonstrated the support from the citizens to the event.

Officiating at the “Shanghai Commercial.Pok Oi Cycle for Millions 2023” included the officiating guest, the Secretary for Security, Mr Tang Ping-keung, GBS, PDSM, JP; as well as other special guests: the Deputy Director General of the New Territories Sub-office of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government (LOCPG) in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Mr Li Gong-xun; the Deputy Commander of Correctional Services (Operation and Strategic Development), Mr Ng Chiu-kok; the Director of Operations of the Hong Kong Police Force, Mr Chan Joon-sun, PMSM; the Chairm a n of the Board of Directors, Pok Oi Hospital, Dr Chan Shou ming; the Permanent Adviser of the Board of Directors, Pok Oi Hospital, Mdm. Lam Kwan; the Deputy Chairman, Managing Director & Chief Executive of Shanghai Commercial Bank, Mr David Kwok Sek chi; the Event Caring Ambassadors, Mr Wong Kam po, SBS, MH and Mr Alex Fong Lik sun; and the Star Ri ders, Mr Angus Ng Ka-long, Ms Maisy Ma Hiu ching and Ms Vivian Ma Wing yu.

As in previous editions, the event featured the Individual and Corporate/Team categories. The 13-kilometre riding route started at the Tsing Sha Highway, then crossed over the Stonecutters Bridge and through the Nam Wan Tunnel, onto the Ngong Shung Road and finally returned to the starting point, offering magnificent sight of city skyline and Victoria Harbour all along, and a fun-filling closing ceremony-cum-carnival at the finishing point, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Tsing Yi).
Speaking at the Closing Ceremony, t he Chairman of the Board of Directors, Pok Oi Hospital, Dr Chan Shou ming expressed his gratitude to the city wide support to the event. “The Shanghai Commercial.Pok Oi Cycle for Millions has grown and become the largest charity cycling event in Hong Kong all thanks to the support and collaboration from various stakeholders of the society, especially from the Shanghai Commercial Bank for the title sponsorship for 6 consecutive editions, so that we can continue to pass on the charitable.”
Deputy Chairman, Managing Director & Chief Executive of Shanghai Commercial Bank, Mr David Kwok Sek-chi shared his excitement about the comeback of the household name after a three-year hiatus: “We are grateful for the continued support of all participants and donors of the Shanghai Commercial.Pok Oi Cycle for Millions. Adding to the ceremony was the Cycling Carnival, which featured popular, photogenic decorations of Sanrio characters and themed booths of cycling, road safety and sports, as well as performance by the winners of “Pok Oi Voice” teenager singing contest and rhythmic gymnastics showcase.

After the firing of the starting pistol, the participants start off at the Tsing Sha Highway for a scenic 13KM riding journey.
