“Pok Oi Charity Show 2023” Successfully Held with the Support of Celebrities’ Performances to Benefit the Social Services of Pok Oi Hospital

Pok Oi Hospital’s annual large-scale fundraising event, “Pok Oi Charity Show,” has been widely supported by the public for many years, raising substantial funds to support the Hospital’s development. This year, “Pok Oi Charity Show” was broadcast live on TVB Jade on March 11, 2023 (Saturday), featuring numerous guest performances. All proceeds from the event will be used to benefit the Hospital’s services, helping more people in need.

“Pok Oi Charity Show 2023” was honoured to have Professor Lo Chung-mau, BBS, JP, Secretary for Health and Mr. Chris Sun, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare as the guests of honour. The lighting ceremony was jointly hosted by Mdm. Lam Kwan, Chairman of Pok Oi Hospital’s Board of Directors, Dr. Chan Shou-ming, the incoming Chairman, Mr. Chau Chun-tat, Vice Chairman, Mdm. Huang Xiao-jun, Vice Chairman, Dr. Chan Kwok-ki, MH, Vice Chairman, Mdm. Candy Liu, Vice Chairman, Mdm. Maggie Hon, Vice Chairman, Mr. Simon Tso, Vice Chairman, and Mr. Wong Wai-kwong, Vice Chairman.

Many celebrities had been invited to join the good cause. Liza Wang, Louis Yuen, Mayanne Mak, and Jarvis Chow Yik-wai were the emcees of the event. Performing guests included Mike Tsang, James Ng, Joey Wong, Gabriel Harrison, Aiden Hung, Oscar Tao, Rita Carpio, Vivian Koo, Gigi Yim, Joey Thye, and Albert Chau. Also performing were contestants from the two seasons of “STARS Academy,” including Jasmine Yam, Janees Wong, Sabrina Chiu, Yumi Chung, Windy Zhan, Pamela Chiu, Archie Sin, and Rock Ho, who delivered impressive performances to call on people from all walks of life to generously donate to the good cause.

The event was held in the form of a “Red and Blue Singing Battle”. Donors could donate to support their favourite team. The two teams performed various songs in different segments, including a medley of classic songs by Leslie Cheung and Anita Mui, and duets by mentors and contestants from “Midlife Sing & Shine!” and “STARS Academy”. The aim was to promote the spirit of Pok Oi Hospital through singing, while raising more funds to benefit the community. Mr. and Mrs. Au also donated HK$ 1,000,000 to support Dr. Chan Shou-ming, the incoming Chairman, and Mrs. Au who jointly performed a classic Chinese opera piece, “The Flower Princess: The Fragrant Death”, which was a real treat for Chinese opera fans.

Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited donated HK$ 6,780,000 and the cheque was presented to Pok Oi Hospital by Mr. Edmund Kam, Managing Director and Head of Private Banking at Bank of China (leftmost). Mdm. Lam Kwan, Chairman of Pok Oi Hospital’s Board of Directors, Mr. Wilson C. Kwok, Director, and Mr. Lee Wai-man, Director, received the donation on behalf of the Hospital.

Shanghai Commercial Bank donated HK$ 4,680,000 and the cheque was presented to Pok Oi Hospital by Mr. David Sek-chi Kwok, Deputy Chairman, Managing Director and Chief Executive (leftmost). Dr. Chan Shou-ming, the incoming Chairman of Pok Oi Hospital’s Board of Directors, Mdm. Peggy Lam, Director, and Mrs. Poon Man See-yee, Director, received the donation on behalf of the Hospital.

Dr. Chan Shou-ming, the incoming Chairman of Pok Oi Hospital’s Board of Directors, performed a duet with Mrs. Au to raise HKD 1,000,000 in donations for the evening.

Contestants from two seasons of “STARS Academy,” including Janees Wong, Windy Zhan, Jasmine Yam, and Sabrina Chiu kicked off the evening by performing the song “Chandelier” together.

The singers were divided into two groups, red and blue, for a vocal battle and performed a medley of classic hits by Leslie Cheung and Anita Mui.

Rita Carpio and Albert Chau, the mentor and protégé duo from the show “Midlife Sing & Shine!” performed “Why Do We Need to Have Met Before” (相逢何必曾相識) together.

New forces in the music scene, Mike Tsang and Gigi Yim, battled it out, singing “Reunion” (重見), “Eye-opening” (大開眼界), and a duet song called “Going in Circles” (兜圈).

Gin Lee gave the closing performance at “Pok Oi Charity Show 2023” and the atmosphere was electrifying.
