“Pok Oi Month Awards Ceremony and Celebration Banquet” Commended Local Organisations for their Generosity

The “Pok Oi Month Hong Kong-wide Charity Fundraising” is an annual large-scale fundraising event organised by Pok Oi Hospital. This year’s “Pok Oi Month Hong Kong-wide Charity Fundraising” has successfully come to a close and the “Pok Oi Month Awards Ceremony and Celebration Banquet” was held on the 23rd. This year’s Pok Oi Charity Month events raised over HK$ 2.16 million despite the pandemic, which is an impressive feat. Mdm. Lam Kwan, Chairman of Pok Oi Hospital’s Board of Directors, promised in her speech that all donations would be used for their intended purposes to benefit more people in need.
The “Pok Oi Month Awards Ceremony and Celebration Banquet” was held on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at the Wedding Banquet Specialist Store at The ONE in Tsim Sha Tsui. Attending the event as the guests of honour for the evening were Mr. Tong Soen, Assistant Commissioner (Rehabilitation Division) of the Correctional Services Department, Ms. Wong Ngok-ching, District Social Welfare Officer of the Yuen Long District Social Welfare Office, Mr. Chan Park-sun, Assistant District Officer of the Yuen Long District Office of the Home Affairs Department, Police Superintendent Chan Hei-chi, District Commander of Yuen Long District, Ms. Ng Wai-na, Head of the Coordination Department (New Territories) of the Hong Kong Liaison Office, Mr. Stephen Ma Chak-wa, MH, CStJ, Chairperson of the Community Resilience Strategic Committee of the Hong Kong Red Cross, and Ms. Nancy Ho, Chief Commissioner (Public Relations) of the Scout Association of Hong Kong.
The “Pok Oi Month Hong Kong-wide Charity Fundraising” of this year was held from August 27, 2022 to March 23, 2023. During this period, it was greatly supported by various housing estates, courts, and groups in different districts throughout Hong Kong, resulting in a donation of over HK$ 2.16 million this year. People from Eastern District, Southern District, Central and Western District, Wan Chai District, Wong Tai Sin District, Kowloon City District, Kwun Tong District, Sai Kung District, Sham Shui Po District, Yau Tsim Mong District, Tsuen Wan District, Kwai Tsing District, Sha Tin District, Tai Po District, North District, Tuen Mun District, and Yuen Long District raised social service funds for the Hospital by organising charity sales, charity theatre performances, and charity raffles, among other fundraising activities. In particular, the non-profit organisation “Serving Love and Care” (SLC) raised more than HK$ 220,000, winning the award for the highest funds raised by a housing estate charitable group in Hong Kong. The runner-up was the Incorporated Owners of Yuen Long Tin Shing Court, raising over HK$ 210,000, and the third place went to the Perfect Life Association, raising HK$ 160,000.
Other awards were also presented that evening, including the highest charity event fundraising award, the highest charity lottery sales award (housing estate groups), the highest charity lottery sales award (schools), the highest fundraising award for service units of the Pok Oi Hospital, the charity spirit award, the charity creativity award, and the enthusiastic participation award, to recognize the continued support of various housing estates, courts, and groups throughout Hong Kong over the years.

Maggie Hon, Chairman of the Fundraising and Promotion Committee and the Pok Oi Month Fundraising Committee, Dr. Chan Shou-ming, the incoming Chairman, Mr. Chau Chun-tat, Vice Chairman, Mdm. Huang Xiao-jun, Vice Chairman, Dr. Chan Kwok-ki, MH, Vice Chairman, Mdm. Candy Liu, Vice Chairman, Mr. Simon Tso, Vice Chairman, Mr. Wilson C. Kwok, Director, Mdm. On that evening, in addition to Viu TV’s renowned hosts Ms. Florica Lin and Mr. Jacky Jim (JJ), who acted as the emcees, several other celebrities were also invited to join the charity event, including charity ambassadors Helena Law Lan, MH, Susan Tse Suet-sum, Cheung Kwok-keung, and Sunny Dai Yiu-ming; charity stars Wong Wan-Choi, Colleen Lau, Cecilia Fong, Woo Ying-man, Carson Lee Man-bill, Ricky Wong, Robert Mak Tak-law, as well as artist Lana Wong and the second runner-up of the “Voice of Pok Oi” youth singing competition Lam Kit-sum, who performed to thank the generosity of donors from all sectors.

Mdm. Lam Kwan, Chairman of the Board of Directors, promised in her welcome speech that all donations would go towards benefiting more citizens in need.
In her vote of thanks, Mdm. Maggie Hon, Chairman of the Fundraising and Promotion Committee and the Pok Oi Month Fundraising Committee, expressed gratitude to all friends and philanthropists from various sectors for their unwavering support over the years, making the excellent fundraising results of this year’s Pok Oi Month possible.
This year’s award for the highest funds raised by a housing estate charitable group and the first, second, and third place awards for the highest funds raised at a charity event went to “Serving Love and Care” (upper), the Incorporated Owners of Tin Shing Court (middle), and Perfect Life Association (lower), respectively.
Charity ambassador Helena Law Lan and actress Lana Wong called on all sectors to actively support Pok Oi Hospital’s charity flag-selling day on August 5th.

There was a lucky draw session, and the emcees, Ms. Florica Lin and Mr. Jacky Jim first drew the Shoutao brand Shanghai noodles and butter noodles, donated by Mr. Chow Ying-yuen.
